Google Clock app on Wear OS now limited to Pixel Watch

It looks like Google has quietly pulled support for the Google Clock app on Wear OS smartwatches outside of its own Pixel Watch. This change means popular devices from Samsung, OnePlus, and other brands are now left out.

The Google Clock app handles essentials like alarms, timers, and stopwatches. On the Pixel Watch, it’s the default choice, while brands like Samsung and OnePlus ship their own versions. Still, for years, users could install Google Clock from the Play Store on third-party Wear OS watches as an alternative — until now.

Over the past couple of weeks, users began reporting that the app is no longer compatible with devices like the Galaxy Watch and OnePlus Watch. Attempting to install it simply results in a “This item is not compatible with your device” error. Reports on Reddit, Google support forums, and Play Store reviews date back to early September. Even sideloading the app doesn’t reliably fix the problem, as alarm syncing often breaks.

The restriction doesn’t affect existing installs — if the app is already on your watch, it will keep working unless you remove it. But a factory reset would wipe it out entirely, with no way to get it back through official channels.

Interestingly, this shift comes just after Google rolled out new Material 3 updates for the app. It also follows Google’s announcement that the Wear OS Weather app will soon be Pixel-exclusive starting with Wear OS 6.

Google hasn’t provided any explanation yet, leaving it unclear whether this is a bug or a permanent change.
