The Spotify app for Wear OS is finally getting the facelift users have been waiting for. Rolling out now in March 2026, this update moves away from the traditional button-heavy interface toward a gesture-first experience that prioritizes speed and immersion.

If you’re a Galaxy Watch, Pixel Watch, or any Wear OS user, here is everything you need to know about the new look.

Immersive "Music-First" Mode

The centerpiece of this redesign is the new Now Playing screen. Instead of tiny buttons cluttering the display, Spotify now features edge-to-edge album art that sits behind your track information.

Master the New Gestures

Because the new UI removes many on-screen icons, Spotify has introduced intuitive touch controls to handle playback without needing to aim for small targets while you’re running or commuting:

ActionResult
Single TapPlay or Pause
Double Tap (Right)Skip to the Next Track
Double Tap (Left)Go back to the Previous Track
Swipe DownEnter "Music-First" (Immersive) Mode
Swipe UpAccess traditional controls, Search, and Library

Faster Navigation & Discovery

The update isn't just about the player; the entire app structure has been streamlined. By swiping up from the main player, you can instantly jump into:

There is also a new "Essentials" menu (accessible via a dedicated button or tap) that lets you quickly manage your playback queue, set a sleep timer, or switch your audio output to different Bluetooth headphones.

How to Get the Update

The redesign is currently rolling out via a server-side update. To ensure you're ready:

  1. Open the Google Play Store on your watch.
  2. Scroll down to Manage Apps.
  3. Check for an update to Spotify.

Note: Even with the latest version, it may take a few days for the new UI to appear on your specific device as the rollout reaches more users.
