Google Pixel Watch 4: What’s Really New

Google has just unveiled the Pixel Watch 4, and it’s the most ambitious update yet to its smartwatch lineup. With a brighter edge-to-edge display, longer battery life, true repairability, and even satellite SOS for emergencies, this isn’t just a small refresh—it’s a major leap that pushes Wear OS into new territory.

Design & Display: Sleeker, Brighter, and More Immersive

• The new Actua 360 domed display isn’t just a visual metaphor—it’s physically curved to deliver 10 % more active area with bezels shrunk by roughly 15 % compared to the Watch 3. It also shines brighter, reaching up to 3,000 nits, so readability in bright outdoor conditions is dramatically improved.
• An enhanced Material 3 Expressive UI adds dynamic theming, rich animations, and glance-friendly elements that make interactions feel fluid and alive.
• Upgraded haptics (15 % stronger) and a new speaker design ensure your interactions, especially with the AI assistant, feel more satisfying.

Performance & Battery: More Power, Less Waiting

• Under the hood, the Pixel Watch 4 packs the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 chip alongside a faster, more efficient ML co-processor—delivering strong performance with reduced power consumption.
• Battery life is up approximately 25 %—roughly 30 hours on the 41 mm and 40 hours on the 45 mm. Enable Battery Saver and you can stretch it up to two or three days, depending on the model.
• Charging gets a major boost: the Quick Charge Dock (now mounted on the side) tops up 0–50 % in just 15 minutes—adding around 15 hours of battery life.

Serviceability: Finally Repairable

• For the first time in the Pixel Watch line, the Watch 4 is user-serviceable. A Torx T2 screwdriver can remove the screen and battery, with replacement parts (like screens and batteries) available via iFixit—and the watch retains its IP68 water resistance post-repair.

Safety: SOS via Satellites

• The Pixel Watch 4 LTE is the world’s first smartwatch with standalone satellite SOS functionality. When normal cellular service fails, it guides you through the process—using haptics and audio cues—to connect to a satellite and send emergency alerts. This feature is free for the first two years after launch and has been rigorously field-tested in environments like national parks and even whale-watching trips to ensure reliability.

Health & Fitness: Smarter Tracking & Coaching

• Health tracking sees major improvements: sleep tracking is now 18 % more accurate, thanks to advanced ML models. Dual-frequency GPS ensures precise route tracking, even in dense urban or forested areas.
• New additions include a skin temperature sensor, instant real-time cycling stats streamed to your handlebars, and expanded workout modes—now supporting 50+ exercises, including pickleball and basketball.
• AI steps in to detect workouts automatically (even if you forget to start one), with recaps delivered afterward. Plus, an AI health coach powered by Gemini offers personalized, proactive guidance. Initially, this is previewed in the U.S. for Fitbit users in October.

Smarter AI Connectivity

• The Pixel Watch 4 ships with Wear OS 6, featuring the sleek Material 3 Expressive design and Gemini AI. It enables Raise-to-Talk, letting you summon Gemini by simply lifting your wrist—perfect when your hands are full.
• Enhanced Smart Replies predictively appear in conversations up to 80 % of the time—compared to just 20 % previously—making communication quicker than ever.
