Today marks the launch of the TicWatch Pro 5, a significant milestone for Mobvoi in multiple aspects. One notable highlight is its operating system, as this is Mobvoi’s inaugural smartwatch powered by Wear OS 3. Despite having capable hardware available for over a year, the company has now embraced the updated interface that works seamlessly with exclusive apps designed for Wear OS 3, providing a user experience similar to Google’s Pixel Watch. Mobvoi has made minimal changes to the interface, keeping it largely unchanged.
Beneath the surface, the TicWatch Pro 5 utilizes Qualcomm’s advanced 4nm Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chipset. This achievement makes it the first smartwatch to incorporate this powerful chipset, resulting in impressive performance and optimized battery life. According to Mobvoi, this watch can last up to 80 hours on a single charge, thanks to its 628 mAh battery. Additionally, the battery can be charged rapidly, reaching 65% capacity in just 30 minutes.
The endurance of the TicWatch Pro line primarily stems from its distinctive feature, the dual-layer display. When utilizing Wear OS, users are presented with a 1.43-inch OLED display, boasting a sharp resolution of 466×466 pixels. However, when the display is in the “off” state, a second layer takes over, continuously displaying the time. In the latest model, Mobvoi has introduced new capabilities to the “ultra-low-power” mode, enabling it to last for weeks. Additionally, the watch now supports an always-on mode that adjusts the backlight color based on the user’s heart rate zone.
Taking care of health and fitness functionalities is the Mobvoi Health app, which has now replaced the Wear OS app for pairing with the TicWatch Pro 5. Through this app, users can access standard statistics such as step count, heart rate, sleep patterns, and workout data. The TicWatch Pro 5 goes beyond the basics and offers additional features like estimated recovery time from activities, automatic workout tracking, a compass, built-in GPS, and a barometer.
Another notable addition is the inclusion of a rotating crown on the power button, which has long been a standard feature on most Wear OS watches but was previously absent from Mobvoi’s lineup. The entire watch is designed to be water-resistant up to 5ATM and meets the durability standards of MIL-STD-810H. With an aluminum case measuring approximately 48mm, the TicWatch Pro 5 weighs 44.35g.
The arrival of the TicWatch Pro 5 has been eagerly awaited by Wear OS users and is competitively priced at $349, the same as Google’s Pixel Watch. Orders are now open on Mobvoi.com and Amazon.
