OpenAI on Your Wrist: GPT Comes to WearOS with WearGPT

Are you interested in using OpenAI’s GPT language model on your wearOS watch? You can now do so with the innovative WearGPT app. Although it is still in the early stages of development, the app is fully functional on most wearOS watches, including the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and newer models.

With this app, you can ask questions, receive quick answers, perform calculations, and more without the need to pull out your phone or open a browser. It’s like having a personal virtual assistant right on your wrist!

While WearGPT is not the first of its kind, with similar offerings already available on Apple Watch and a recent demo from Amazfit, we can expect to have multiple options for AI apps on our wrist in the near future. This is an exciting time for wearable technology.

As with any new app, there are some bugs and glitches that need to be worked out. Currently, the software does not work with some watches in the Mobvoi range and the Tag Heurer Connected, but the author is addressing this issue and has shared updates on Reddit.

Potential privacy concerns should also be kept in mind, as the app uses OpenAI’s user API (base plan) and currently only allows a limited number of requests per month. However, the app does not require any logins or signups, and the author is working on adding the ability for users to use their own API key.

Despite these limitations, WearGPT stands out for its simplicity and accessibility, making it a valuable tool for anyone looking to access the power of OpenAI’s GPT language model on their wearOS watch.

The app is available for free download on the PlayStore, and the author has no plans to charge for it. Eventually, the software is intended to be made open source.
